Picnic, BBQ, Utensil, or Craft Box DIY Project

DIY Multi Use Box- Take it on picnics or use it for crafts!

erwin-8I love watching the show Fixer Upper on HGTV… Kind of obsessed with it really.  And one project Joanna has done is creating these cute little craft boxes for kids markers, pencils, and crayons.  If you click the image to the left you can see her adorable craft box she put in the home for the kids.

My little man is only 7 months so he’s not entirely ready for a cute box for all of his crayons just yet.  So until then, I’m going to be using this box for party’s.  One day it will transition its way down, but for now it’s still for me!

So here’s what I did to achieve this look!  In the Target deals for spring section I found this cute little multi use box for $5.  It came in pink, green, and this plain wood color.  So I picked the plain color box and picked up some chalk paint and paint brushes while I was at the store.  Now if you’re reading this after their sale on these items has passed click the links above to find similar items on Amazon. The  chalk paint and paint brushes are definitely cheaper on Amazon…

I then crated some extra compartments using two pieces of cardboard cut half way down the center and crisscrossed.  I used a diaper box so it is nice thin cardboard.  I then covered the pieces in scrapbook paper before putting them together permanently in the box to make it look a little nicer.  Using cardboard rather than having fixed wood pieces in there makes my box more versatile for different projects.

To finish my project I took the cardboard out and put it aside while I painted the box.  Two coats and still plenty of chalkboard paint for another project!  I popped the cardboard back in after it dried wrote on the box with some chalk and filled it will all of the items I needed for my picnic!
