So you’ve been invited to a potluck and you need something to bring! I am not going to lie, I am not the great chef in my relationship. I can plan a mean party, but I can really only bake for it! I have also been a vegetarian for the past 19 years so I always like to bring something to a potluck that I can eat! The problem I find as a young professional is that when I am going to a potluck I want to look classy but don’t want to spend a lot of money! I am known for my great event hosting abilities but I am not a great chef so I need to fake it till I make it!
If you need to fake it like me, here are a few tips for preparing your potluck foods for any summer occasion!
Does the party have a theme?
Last year at my 4th of July Party a friend of mine brought this amazing fruit flag skewers! All you need are strawberries, blueberries, banana’s and some skewers, a little bit of time and BAM this awesome contribution to any Independence Day party!
I also got in the spirit of the 4th last year by decorating my cake in the flag theme as well! All it took was cake mix and frosting I had lying around the house some food coloring and sprinkles. You don’t need all the fancy cake topping tools to make this cake a tooth pick will help you make the dollops for the stars and the simple poor function on the sprinkles to make the lines is truly all you need. I’m not going to lie I do have all of those fancy attachments to decorate this cake and I chose not to use them!
Is the party outside or inside?
It’s summer time and you need to have food that can survive outside in the sun!
Still have those skewers around but don’t want to make a flag out of them? Go for this fun alternative using strawberries, blueberries, and marshmallows! Something fun for everyone not just the kids!
How about bringing some simple Guacamole and Pita Chips? All can simply be purchased at the store and displayed nicely if you are in a rush! But if you do want to take that extra step and make your own guacamole Click Here for a great recipe.
If you feel like cooking just a little here is a great easy recipe for a tomato pasta salad! Click Here for the full recipe. All you need is Pasta, Olive Oil, salt, black pepper, basil, garlic, tomato’s, and Parmesan cheese. Most of these are staples in my house and hopefully yours to so it should mean you need to run out to the store for this easy recipe!
Good luck on all of your summer potlucks… Especially if you are a vegetarian like me attending the weekly BBQ’s!
