Easy Family Feud for Floor or Friends

Green

Looking for a fun game to play with a big crowd?  This game is fun for RA’s to use with their floors, building, all of res life or just a large group of friends.  I modeled it after the popular TV game show Family Feud when I made it for my floor 10 years ago.  It does, however, require some work on the RA’s or planners part to pull off.  Want to  do it the easy way?  Just buy this board game and follow the rules and adaptations I’ve stated below.

Steps it takes to Complete this Game:
  1. Develop your list of questions you’d like to survey.
  2. Create your survey using any tool you may wish: google docs, survey monkey, just e-mail what ever is most convenient for you all questions should be open ended.
  3. Get 100 individuals to answer the questions, Facebook is a helpful tool to get friends to answer the questions.
  4. Streamline your questions into rounds for your event
  5. Create an answer sheet for your host.
  6. Collect the top 3-6 answers for each question, the value of each answer is determined by the number of people who answered the question the same ex. Name a Planet: Earth- 24 Jupiter- 20 Mars- 15 Venus- 10 Mercury- 3 Neptune 2  In round two the points can be doubled and in round 3 the points are tripled.
  7. There is no real reason to have a “fast money round” when playing it on your floor or with friends because there is no true incentive to get more money the prize just goes to the winning team.
  8. Choose a prize that your guests would like.
  9. Promote the event and get people to sign up to be contestants (if playing with different floors or buildings try to get teams to comprise of individual floors or buildings).
  10. If you want you can cut out the answers to put up on the wall or on a poster board for each round covered or you can just read them to your guests.
  11. You will also need strike markers, two buzzers, and a timer.
  12. Get guests to come and watch.
Sample questions you can use for your Game:
  • Name something Washington, DC has a lot of
  • Name something people do to cool down on a hot summers day
  • Name something that cats have that people do not
  • Name something people do with snow
  • Name something that is better when it’s hot
  • Name a fruit with a lot of seeds
  • Name a reason people take out a loan
  • Name something you would see a lot of in Kansas
  • Name a holiday that people wear special colors for
  • Name an animal hikers fear
  • Name something that runs on a schedule
  • Name something that has holes in it
  • Name something kids bring home from school
  • Name a type of junk food
  • Name a game kids play in kindergarden
  • Name something you would find at a kids birthday party
  • Name a good place to study
  • Name something money can’t buy
  • Name something associated with Harry Potter
  • Name something parents do to get their kids to sleep
  • Name a type of circus performer
  • Name something visitors want to see when going to France
  • Name a grocery store chain
  • Name something people buy tickets for
How to Play
  1. Put your contestant in front of the group in their two teams of 5 members each (you can have less if needed)
  2. One member of each team faces the other in a face-off as the host reads the question off the game board.
  3. The team that buzzed in with the correct answer receives control of the board and has the option of playing or passing control to the other team.
  4. The team that has the control tries to reveal all of the correct answers to the question before receiving three strikes. (If the answer is not on the board, that team gets the strike)
  5. If the team receives three strikes without clearing the board, control is passed to the other team.
  6. The team that now has the control is able to give one answer in the hopes that it is found on the board.
    • If it is, all of the points from that round are added to the team’s score.
    • If not, the other team gets the points.
  7. Points are collected as each team finds its answers to the question on the board. For example, an answer that had 15 people select it would be worth 15 points.
  8. Continue the game repeating steps two through seven.
  9. Each team tries to collect the most points. The team with the most points wins the game!

Note to RA’s and Higher Ed Professionals,

If you need an educational program for your floor you can also use this game and structure you will just need to change the survey questions asked.  For example you could ask: what is the most prevalent sexually transmitted disease.  After you get all of the answers from your guests and play the round you can announce the real statistics to the crowd.

Advertising Your Event Using PowToon

So at work not only am I in charge of putting on the events I am also in charge of marketing them.  At the end of last year I heard about a website called Powtoon and got our department an account.  Powtoon helps you create animated videos and hosts them on their website.  But the cool thing about Powtoon is that you can use it for free and then export to youtube.  You don’t need to upgrade but if you do there are more options for you.  This can be used even for your own party at home to get your friends excited or for all of you RA’s out there reading this blog you can make a video and send it out to all of your residents! The best way for you to learn about Powtoon is to check out there website and play around with it yourself!  I highly recommend!

Below you can see the video I made to promote my Weekends trip to a local amusement park.  I used it on our website and on the campus TV’s to advertise to our students.

Note: I do not receive any compensation for talking about this website on my blog.
