RA’s Read Mean Tweets Program

RA's Read Mean Tweets

This is a great program in partnership with their schools counseling office that mixes popular online video, the notoriety of RA’s (could also be done by orientation leaders during orientation), and the knowledge and support of the schools counseling office.  This is also a great program for high school students possibly something the student council could do during an assembly.  Check out the video below for more information.

The Intense Name Game for Party or RA Program

I was in Forest Gump

Are you looking for a fun game to play this with your family over the holidays, with your friends at your New Years Eve Party, or are you a Resident Assistant looking for a fun game to play with your floor when school starts back up again?  Well then how about a game of Intense Name Game?

  • A bowl
  • Scissors
  • Paper
  • Pens/Pencils
  • Stopwatch/Phone

Game Prep Instructions:

  • Cut up the paper into slips before the program/event begins (5-10 per person depending on party size) divide evenly among guests.
  • Have everyone write 1 name per slip of paper (famous, someone in the room, dead, alive, fictional, or real) but ask your guests not to make the person to obscure.
  • Fold up each piece of paper and put them into the bowl.
  • Divide everyone up into two groups.

How to Play:

  • Round 1
    • Give the bowl to one person on one team they have 30 seconds to try to get their team to guess as many names as they can. If you as the host are participating have the other team do the timing and switch off.
    • The person whose turn it is pulls the names out one at a time and they can say anything to give clues to their team except the name itself if they say the name that one does not count.
    • Once their team guesses the name, they keep that slip and then they reach in and get another name, this continues until the 30 seconds are up.
    • If they were working on a name that was not guessed that name is thrown out.
    • Pass the bowl to a person on the other team and repeat.
    • Each team should keep a pile of slips they have guessed whether they were counted as points or not do not throw away or mangle the slips.
    • When all the names in the bowl have been guessed or passed on, record the points for each team each correct answer is worth 1 point.
  • Round 2
    • In this round correct answers are each worth 2 points.
    • Put all the slips back in the bowl
    • Start with which ever team would have gone next.
    • They have 30 seconds to get their team to guess the name on the slip but this time they can only say one word.
    • If they say more than one word they have to put the slip back in the bowl.
    • When the bowl is empty, count up the points and add them to the score from round one.
  • Round 3
    • In this round correct answers are each worth 3 points.
    • Put all the slips back in the bowl
    • Start with which ever team would have gone next.
    • They have 30 seconds to get their team to guess the name on the slip but this round is the Charades round.  You can only act out the name
    • When the bowl is empty, count up the score and add them up for a final winner.

This game can be played with a large or small group of people.  The more people you have the more names will be in the bowl so adjust the amount of slips you give out per person accordingly so that the game lasts as long as you’d like it to.  You can always add more names to the bowl halfway through if you’d like to play longer.  Have fun and enjoy!

DIY Color Run

DIY Color RunWhether you are having your own color run for your floor, friends, or kids or looking to celebrate Holi.  Here is an easy way for you to host your own colorful powder throwing party!

Plastic Baggies

Corn Starch

Food Coloring

Spoons and Forks

Water Guns for the fun!

How To:

Take your food coloring and corn starch. Try a cup of corn starch for each color to start however up your quantities if you are doing this for a whole floor or large group of people.

Add 5-10 drops of food coloring per cup of corn starch until you have the color you want.  Including if you are mixing colors.

Mix together.  The consistency will become hard so use a spoon or fork to break up the chunks.

Finally, let the powder dry overnight. Place it on parchment paper or in a plastic baggie and leave it open. If you find the dried powder is clumpy, run it a few times in your food processor or blender.

Hand the baggies out to your guests and let them throw it at each other.  Spraying each other down with the water guns helps the color stick to their nice white clothes for some added fun!

Easy Hot Coco Bar

hot coco

The Holiday Season might be over but that doesn’t mean you have to stop having hot coco parties.  Last time I checked there was still a ton of snow in the North East, Mid Atlantic, and Mid West of the United States not to mention other countries where snow is prevalent! So don’t break the hot coco bar bubble just yet!

Here are the supplies you’re going to need:

  • Hot Water Dispenser (if you don’t have a big one like I do in the picture below you can always do a little kettle for your residence or friends)
  • Hot Coco Packets (you don’t need to be fancy, people will enjoy it no matter what, but get different flavors and sugar free and low fat options)
  • Marshmallows (get more than one flavor)
  • Candy Canes
  • Stirrers
  • Hot Drink Cups
  • Napkins
  • Whip Cream
  • Coffee Flavored Creamers (does this seem strange?  Well don’t let it, I have had them out at my last few hot coco events and it turns out everyone loves adding a little flavor to their coco)

After that all you need to do is advertise and they will come!  Everyone loves a warm treat on a cold day!
